Natural Evolution

By tracing our origins and going back to the beginning we may set and achieve new goals – and like the best pole-vaulters, soar ever higher. At the dawn of this endeavour, it was just a dream shared by a young couple with four children. With the full trust and support of my wife, I was able to realise the idea of setting up my own business – an enterprise for us and our children.

Our dream came true in 1990. When we inaugurated Gioseppo a feeling of trepidation surrounded us, but we were full of hope and optimism. The thought of failing never occurred. We simply could not fail. You always dream of going farther, and dreams make it possible to move forward. You dream of running your own company. You dream of having your own brand. Nowadays, Gioseppo is a trademark recognised and respected worldwide.

We believe in family values and Esperanza has always fostered such values in our children. Unconsciously, we have educated the future managers of the company. Now they have become fair, hard-working professionals in different fields of expertise who, moreover, are compatible with each other. Our dreams today are focused on our workforce. On the one hand, this is comprised of more than sixty people, whose hard work, talent and fidelity definitely contribute to our company’s success. And on the other hand, the more than two hundred outside professionals, both of whose energies are the driving force of our firm.

We dreamt of our new premises for them – as a well-deserved landing mat, so that they can then perform another feat that will take us higher and farther. José Navarro Pomares

Going farther

Logistics are the greatest challenge in a globalised world. Our customers decide when they want to have their products. We cross the world and make it possible. With a 32,000-cubic-metre automated underground store with a storage capacity of two millions items of footwear, the new Gioseppo building has become a showpiece of the footwear industry. This storage pit is five times more efficient than a conventional warehouse and boasts a transit area for goods of 4,500 square metres, lit with natural lighting.

Gioseppo committed itself to becoming an international brand and is now present in more than thirty-five countries. Its new facilities were designed to deal with the increasing demands of its clients and markets. We have larger and smaller customers, summer and seasonal ones - in short, a wide range of clients who all require and deserve a prompt, first-class service. The new premises not only increase our logistical capacity but also decrease to the minimum the complexity of our catalogue range. This is made up of a vast array of products targeted at a diversified market - thus making it possible for us to deal with a huge variety of products and improve the quality of our customer service.

The facilities were also designed to lessen the physical effort of our workmen. Their new duties will mean a new working environment and the possibility of professional development with Gioseppo. As we have always been committed to excellence, we audit all the processes involved in our business. With our new building, we will be able to make an important qualitative leap forward in logistic operations. Going farther, reaching more people.

Surrounded by beauty

Product design is more than just creating. It is understanding clients' needs. We design for a huge market, to meet its varied and changing needs. We design so that price is not the only attraction, but that the price is also attractive. We look for as many solutions as possible until we come up with the best.

Creativity is preceded by beauty. It is encouraged in a tranquil and harmonious environment. The new Gioseppo building has been thoroughly planned and designed down to the smallest details according to a corporate philosophy closely linked to Mediterranean values. Its sleek steel-clad exterior, which provides the building with a sense of continuity, seduces us. We cannot but simply adore its Mediterranean-inspired garden, with a surface area of over 3,000 square metres, planted with olive trees and palm trees, and irrigated by rainwater from a pond. The state-of-the-art interior, with extensive, gently lit open-plan areas, facilitates communication between the staff and helps free their minds.

The decision to design our own collections and to have our very own team of designers has turned out to be the right one for the success of the business. Because design is embedded within the values of our trademark. It empowers the brand name - thus encouraging the recognition and dissemination of our spirit, our essence. We have entered a building that is a source of inspiration. We welcome new ideas. We welcome new designs. We welcome new Gioseppo products.

Future-orientated

We care for our future, we love the environment and we seek solutions to reduce the environmental impact of our activities. Light is, and has been, our main inspiration and resource. A slat system that covers the building acts as a solar regulator - thus reducing by 80 % the impact of sunrays, managing the sunlight, avoiding the excessive heat and keeping the building cool when the sun is burning down on it.

During the cold seasons, this second skin, which covers the premises, protects them from the wind and low temperatures. Besides this, interior patios provide the work areas with natural light. When it came to sheathing the building, the micro-perforated steel cladding turned out to be the best solution. It is inspired by traditional Mediterranean blinds, which help cause convection currents, blowing the hot air away from the building. Therefore, creating a comfortable temperature.

The right balance between the vertical light that filters through the slats and the lateral light sieved through the steel cladding helps to avoid uncomfortable and excessive brightness, which causes discomfort for those working with computer screens. On the roof of the building, 2,000 square metres of solar panels have been installed. Gioseppo is able to both generate 1 megawatt of power and turn solar energy into electric power and release it to the public electricity network.

Moreover, a water harvesting system will allow the accumulating, recycling and reusing of rainwater. The new Gioseppo building produces more power and water than it uses.

A lovable workplace

A place for you. Being aware of the importance of how the staff feel in the workplace - and how it influences their motivation - the Department of Human Resources has actively taken part in the design of the new headquarters of Gioseppo.

Light, architectural structures, spaces, distances and numbers of people were thoroughly studied and analysed so as to facilitate communication and team work, as well as individual work when required. Therefore, the new staff-friendly facilities make it easier to reflect upon a particular issue or to create a new product or to reach a decision. We look for talent. Those who are satisfied with their work produce more intelligent ideas. They also dare to innovate and come up with better solutions.

We know that the greatest success comes from ongoing professional development, so we are committed to a training policy aimed at every employee in every one of our teams. We think that work is not everything in life. That is why we eagerly promote the right balance between work and family life. We are aware that sometimes is not possible to do everything at once. Therefore, we have to do our best to reduce work-related stress. We work hard to offer a top quality customer service. People who are proud of their company always look for their customers' interests.

We wanted to erect a building that makes work easier and fosters the coexistence of the people who work there - a great place for a great team. A place for you.

The architect

Architect Ricardo Miñana has been responsible for the design of Gioseppo's new headquarters. He has planned the building based on in-depth research into traditional Mediterranean architecture that he had conducted over many years. His Alicante-based studio, founded in 1990, has designed flagship projects such as the Alicante Port Terminal or the Finestrat State School. It also forms part of several movements for the restoration of the city's historic buildings.

When designing the new facilities of Gioseppo, many green concepts have been taken into account, including sustainability, architectural efficiency, as well as energy and water saving systems. Moreover, the office furniture is made up of a recyclable, semi-prefabricated modular system, which shapes the layout of the different areas. This system also provides the fixtures and fittings for workspaces, leisure rooms, the chain stores, temporary showrooms and stands at trade fairs.

The project has been conceived for a big company that will keep on growing. It is intended to provide the firm's staff with more comfort. As a result, the curve of the loading bay, the depth of the logistic storage pit, the design of the leisure areas, the location of the store and the shape of the garden are, apart from space solutions, deliberate strategies of a style of architecture that puts into practice the company's values.

A dialogue between architecture and fashion

Setting fashion trends is our trademark. It is about feeling emotions associated with words, or a product, or an image… or a building. We were looking for a special style of architecture for a special trademark - a building that could transcend mere physical space and could move us emotionally. The new facilities had to convey the principles of the Gioseppo trademark: brand image, creativity and innovation. They also had to reflect our values as a fashion company devoted to its clients, interested in the future and concerned about people. It is about a balance between what endures and what changes. We wanted to feel comfortable in every nook and cranny of the new Gioseppo facilities. As the smartest outfit, which sets off one’s best features, our building should show us to advantage. Every wall, every room and every corner of our new headquarters reflects the brand.A permanent open-plan 500-square-metre showroom, well lit with natural lighting and overlooking an interior garden, is a space that reminds us of different types of rooms - a ballroom, a big factory or may be a well-known artist's loft? Creativity will find its perfect place here. We have designed a store with a surface area of 300 square metres. We will let ourselves get carried away by imagination to design and decorate shop windows, to create new ways of displaying products, to develop new sales techniques, customer service and distribution systems. And then, share all these new ideas with our customers so as to create successful Gioseppo spaces.

Our garden of 3,000 square metres creates a balance with the environment. It is a place where we can ponder, rest in the sun or just wait until the time of a meeting among palm and olive trees. The garden also boasts a pond so similar to those of old that we used to see in our countryside during the days of our childhood, but which is also contemporary at the same time. The canteen, a place for getting together socially, is where we are going to share our lunchtime. This space also serves as a function room and can be set up depending on particular needs - training sessions or big meetings can be held there. This is an interesting space, whose walls can be adapted to our needs. Finally, the coffee shop is a modern café with tables outside - you won’t want to leave! Everything is thought out to be part of the Gioseppo image. To be fashionable. To endure. We have achieved our aim.
